My opinions on lighter weight adventure touring machines and equipment.

No motorcycle is perfect, there is always somewhere you have to compromise.
Whether its suffering with a small bike on the highway or dealing with a huge bike in a
mud hole, you have to decide where your willing to suffer. On most trips, I prefer taking
my 650cc single cylinder dual sport due to its ability to do almost anything, and it will
get you back home.
Right now, I'm using a Suzuki DR650 but other bikes like the Kawasaki KLR650 are
also great bikes. These bikes get great gas mileage and are super reliable and can
make it through almost any terrain. I chose the Suzuki due to its simple nature, being
an air cooled bike with an external oil cooler, Oil sight window, dual spark plugs and
screw type valve adjusters. I also have a Suzuki V-Strom 650 and its also a great bike,
incredibly fun to ride and is probably the bike I would take for a long two-up trip. These
bikes are also quite reliable, but way more complicated and would most likely require a
dealership to fix it something happened, not what you want in rural Mexico, or even 150
miles from home.
